New York Fashion Week Experience
Hello Fashion World,
I hope life is well and treating you fabulous!! I wanted to jump right into my New York Fashion Week experience. I had such an amazing time in NYC from attending the Lisa Nicole Collection Runway Show and meeting Lisa Nicole (Bravo star on “Married to Medicine”) to attending the Art Hearts Fashion Show. I met a lot of great people within the fashion industry and beyond. I was honored to speak with Angel Orensanz, the founder of the event space the fashion show was held. I also met and spoke with Eleanor Vorhees (IG: eleanor.vorhees) an amazing artist based in New Jersey. Check out her work! From getting the times mixed up to one fashion show, caught up in freezing sleet and trying to catch cabs in heels, it was definitely a challenge before reaping the benefits of entry to each show. If you are planning to attend fashion week in NYC there are a few things to keep in mind before planning your trip.
Tip #1-Research a hotel with a good location. This is essential as you want a hotel in the heart of your destinations. I made sure that each fashion show I attended was not too far from my hotel. You want to consider traffic delays as NYC stays so busy. Use map quest to determine the back and forth distance ahead of time.
Tip #2- Find out the happening events and fashion shows that are going on. Don’t feel bad if you can’t get access to the big shows. Most industry fashion shows are invite only by the designer. Reaching out to PR firms may land you that dream access. It’s no guarantee, but it’s worth a shot. I was fortunate to have a PR firm to provide me exclusive pics to a fashion show. I was so grateful they responded. Pray and don’t give up. Show you are driven and hungry for your dreams. In the meantime, check out Eventbrite and open to the public fashion events going on.
Tip #3-Network your heart away. After the fashion shows are over is a great time to stay behind and network with so many great people. Also look into after party events. You never know who you will bump into. Have those business cards handy and if you leave them behind..no sweat. Exchange info via social media to keep in contact. Do your follow ups and stay connected.
Below are pics from my NYFW experience. For the Lisa Nicole Show, I went for a causual look (Coat: Pink Queen, Shirt: boutique in Japan, Pants: Forever 21, Shoes: ASOS, Scarf: Betsey Johnson). For the Hearts Heart Fashion Show I wanted a fun, chic and edgy look (Fur Coat: Pink Queen, Shirt: Kira Dior Treasures, Leggings: local boutique, Hat: Forever 21, Boots: Nine West, Necklace: Forever 21). I had so much fun in NYC. I can’t imagine where my life would be at without fashion. Always remember to reach for the stars and dream big no matter how unrealistic your goals may seems. Oh and the cutie on camera duty is the love of my life and my biggest supporter. I can’t think him enough for pushing me through my dreams. Thanks a bunch babe!! I hope you enjoy the pics.

BCBG Max Azria Gown Trunk Show
Hi fashion world! I hope all is well and life is fabulous. I want to share with you my experience at a BCBG Max Azria Gown Trunk show I attended in Washington, DC at Lord and Taylor. This show displayed various evening dresses suitable for a cocktail event or evening gala. From short cocktail dresses to long blow in the wind gowns, women will have the option to choose the best style that works for them. What’s special about these gowns are that they are not sold in stores and you will benefit from having a one-of-a-kind dress. There are only a limited amount of dresses that are available worldwide so you can show up to a party and slay without having to worry about accidently spilling a drink on that women across the room with the same dress : ) Fashion is about individual style and making a statement and this can definitely be accomplished through these gowns. I had the privilege of chatting with the models who are all high school students involved in modeling through their school as well and women empowerment. In addition, many of the proceeds goes toward “Look Good Feel Better” which is a program for women who have cancer and it aims towards making women feel great through various beauty sessions. Indian Summer Winter Days
Hi Fashion World,
Hope all is going well with everyone and life is treating you great! Ok so I want to jump write into these seasonable warm days we have been experiencing here on the east coast. One day it’s close to 70 degrees and the next day it’s below 30. It’s such a tease I swear. Sometimes I wonder if I was better off being a Cali girl roller skating down Venice Beach with my hair blowing in the wind and the sun hitting my face. Only in a perfect world right! I honestly despise wearing huge coats so I try to stretch as far as a can with lighter coats until the temps become frigid. On those Indian summer days I like to coordinate my look with my go to faux fur vests from H&M. I believe I only paid $40 bucks for each. I love the versatile look of each vest. Each gives any outfit a pop of edge while still looking like you are prepared for the winter season. Be it dressing up for a night out on the town or going for a more casual look as I did, I recommend keeping some vest handy only if you feel this style is right for you. There are always options for sweater dusters or long cardigans that will help you get by on those warm days. I hope this inspires you for those magical warm days of nice weather and a plus is you can take advantage of using the excuse to go shopping : )

Hacked By My Mini Fashionista
Happy New Year!! I hope everyone is doing well and life is treating you fabulous. It’s truly a blessing to see another year and I’m grateful to continue on with my purpose here on earth. I wanted to share a cute and funny story about my daughter and how my blogged got hacked by her. So at times while I’m out running around with errands and boredom strikes for my 8 year old, I Iet her use my phone to keep her occupied. Normally she loves to play games, but somehow she found out about the Polyvore app and decided to explore its capabilities. My Polyvore app is linked to WordPress (the blogging platform I use), so anytime I decide to create a new outfit, it will automatically post to my blog here. One day I decided to come here just to browse my overall work and when I saw all the outfits on my page that had been created my mouth dropped! I was soooo impressed with what my daughter had put together and even the titles were catchy.
The first look “Mommy’s Date Night Look” she decides to style an outfit that would be in her eyes appropriate for a date night. An array of pinks is something I never would have considered, but I think I could rock this in a heartbeat. I couldn’t stop laughing at the wine phone case lol. I thought it was the coolest. Now when I saw the men’s outfit and the money clip I was rolling completely with laughter. Not only did she put together the perfect causal outfit, but she made sure she added the money to suit the date night occasion. I think in her eyes, if you are dating my mommy you better come correct with money on the first date.
Now I think by the third post “I Made This Myself Its Me Alauna” she wanted to officially introduced herself to let you know my mom is not the brains behind this post I am. I love all the items chosen in this collection. The two piece outfit is adorable and it reminded me of prom or something worn at a cocktail party. Clearly, once I saw it was from a bridal shop, I knew she was trying to slip a hint in lol. The phone case and purse, definitely works as pink is both of our favorite colors. Then to top it off she listed a Kylie cosmetics lip color which I think is perfect for this season. I didn’t even know she was aware of Kylie Cosmetics or even who is Kylie Jenner .
Last but not least, one of my favorite post by my daughter was the “Now This looks Like Beauty Right.” I used to be so afraid of wearing floral back in the day. It always reminded me of my grandmother’s table cloth and my goodness, I would never want to be a walking table cloth. That just isn’t cute lol. Over the years I’ve learned to embrace the floral print and be creative with styling against it. So when I saw the skirt, I was in love with the pop of colors and the cobalt blue top she paired it with..too cute. In addition, I love the variations of eye lash print fashion throughout the accessories.
After discovering the uploads, I confronted my daughter and she was so excited her work was being shown to the world. I complimented her on her creation of various styled outfits and accessories. I wanted to assure her she was not in trouble, and it brought joy to my world seeing her following in her mom’s footsteps. This post taught me a valuable lesson. Never underestimate kids and continue to tap into you kids talents early. I encourage staying engaged with their passions, gifts, and embracing that journey as it continues to develop.
